These activities are free to SVFAL members.

SVFAL's first A.I.R. is RHANNA NYMAN. Rhanna has a B.F.A. from The Cleveland Institute of Art, and has been a full time professional mixed media artist for 25 years. She has exhibited her distinctive fiber/mixed media pieces across the country, and in the last handful of years has expanded her arts business to include workshops, website design and creative facilitation. We welcome Rhanna and the energy and skills she brings to the Red House!

The Art Experience

Look at art from different perspectives in gallery talks that use The Red House exhibitions as a point of departure.

In AUGUST the following presentation will be given twice:

On 10th and the 24th from 5:00-6:00

Explore juried exhibits from the juror’s point of view in this interactive gallery discussion. You will have the chance to try your hand at judging, and will learn about the ins and outs of juried shows along the way. Join us for this informative chat which will assist you in navigating the world of juried shows, and help to take the sting out of what can be a challenging experience!

Due to SVFAL’s current Annual Juried Show and the upcoming BMCA Juried Show, the August ART EXPERIENCE will be held twice. SVFAL encourages all new members, and those who have not participated in juried exhibits, to attend.

Starting in September: THE ART EXPERIENCE will be on the 1st and 3rd FRIDAYS of each month from 5:00-6:00 in The Red House Gallery.

The Casual Critique

A weekly session that gives you the chance to present your artwork, in-process or finished, for feedback in a group setting.

Wednesdays from 2:00–3:00 in The Red House classroom

BEGINS AUGUST 8th  (No session on August 15th)

Having your work critiqued, and participating in the critique of others work, is an invaluable way to grow your creative toolbox and develop verbal skills that allow you to comfortably present your work to the public. These positive results are amplified by critiques that focus on questions rather than judgements. To that end, these sessions will be facilitated by our A.I.R. so as to encourage the development of your unique visual language through answering and asking of process and concept based questions.

Attendance, with or without work to share, is welcome – if no one brings work, we will have fun critiquing work from other sources.

A weekly art business forum designed to address the myriad issues involved in getting your creative work in front of a buying audience.

Monday Mornings from 8:45-9:45 in The Red House classroom

BEGINS AUGUST 6th  (No session on August 20th)

*Door will be closed at 8:45 sharp and sessions will be limited to 5 people to allow for maximum interaction with the A.I.R., a sharp focus on issues, and targeted problem solving.

This weekly forum offers you answers to your questions about the art business.  Each week the topic will be determined by the participant’s experiences and needs. Questions will be generated by the participants, with the A.I.R. providing information, assistance in developing business problem solving skills and focused roundtable discussion. This is a great chance to learn the ropes of selling art, work through business issues, or develop plans for taking your art business to the next level. Bring your pen, paper, and a cup of coffee and start your week off with a dose of inspiration and empowerment!

You do not need to sign up for this forum; you just need to show up. You can participate weekly, or come when the need arises. Please remember that each session is limited to five participants and the door closes at 8:45.
