2018-2019 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE (A.I.R.) PROGRAM
These activities are free to SVFAL members.
SVFAL's first A.I.R. is RHANNA NYMAN. Rhanna has a B.F.A. from The Cleveland Institute of Art, and has been a full time professional mixed media artist for 25 years. She has exhibited her distinctive fiber/mixed media pieces across the country, and in the last handful of years has expanded her arts business to include workshops, website design and creative facilitation. We welcome Rhanna and the energy and skills she brings to the Red House!
Tackle art related issues in 2 hour workshops that cover subjects such as: How do I display/frame my work?, How do I prepare my work for a gallery?, What promotional materials do I need?, and more!

This session will be lead by our Artist in Residence and is free to members.
The Casual Critique
A weekly session that gives you the chance to present your artwork, in-process or finished, for feedback in a group setting.
Second and Fourth Wednesday of each month from 2:00-3:00
RESUMES JANUARY 23rd
Having your work critiqued, and participating in the critique of others work, is an invaluable way to grow your creative toolbox and develop verbal skills that allow you to comfortably present your work to the public. These positive results are amplified by critiques that focus on questions rather than judgements. To that end, these sessions will be facilitated by our A.I.R. so as to encourage the development of your unique visual language through answering and asking of process and concept based questions.
Attendance, with or without work to share, is welcome – if no one brings work, we will have fun critiquing work from other sources.
An art business forum designed to address the myriad issues involved in getting your creative work in front of a buying audience.
Time for a few changes as we head into 2019! I am going to switch to meeting individually, once a month, with the people that have been attending the group BIZMO sessions (both Monday's and Wednesday's group). The people that have been attending BIZMO meetings are moving along splendidly and are at a point where they would be best served by one-on-one personalized sessions. If you are interested in meeting with me for an hour and talking specifically about where you are at business wise, let's touch base at the start of the year and set a regular monthly time to for us to meet! As with the previous sessions, there is no fee for this as it is part of what I am offering as Artist in Residence.
THE RED HOUSE READERS
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, January 15th at 11:00 in The Red House classroom.

Join us for an inspiring look at arts!
In this group we will be reading books about art and discussing issues the books cover - as they relate to visual artists. This is intended to help build our visual vocabularies, develop the context in which we see our art and the art world, and to help us better represent what we do as artists to the public.
Our first book is FREE PLAY by Stephen Nachmanovitch.
“Free Play is about the inner sources of spontaneous creation. It is about where art in the widest sense comes from. It is about why we create and what we learn when we do. It is about the flow of unhindered creative energy: the joy of making art in all its varied forms.”
“Free Play is directed toward people in any field who want to contact, honor, and strengthen their own creative powers. It integrates material from a wide variety of sources among the arts, sciences, and spiritual traditions of humanity. Filled with unusual quotes, amusing and illuminating anecdotes, and original metaphors, it reveals how inspiration arises within us, how that inspiration may be blocked, derailed or obscured by certain unavoidable facts of life, and how finally it can be liberated - how we can be liberated - to speak or sing, write or paint, dance or play, with our own authentic voice.”
This is a relatively small book and a quick and fun read.
