Barbara Syburg converses with Mother Nature and finds inspiration in the dialogue that drives her creative reflections about the earth and its inhabitants. Her current body of work explores image making on the three dimensional surface of dried gourds. Barbara develops intricate surface designs with wood burning techniques, or carves and sculpts the gourds. She adds color to her dimensional imagery through the use of carefully applied ink dyes and transparent acrylic paints. The end result is paintings in-the-round that echo the endless colors and patterns of the earth, and carry the sense of timeless connection Mother Nature offers us all.
