THE SVFAL GALLERIES

Treat yourself to a day filled with beauty! You can visit the heart of SVFAL, tour our working studios, and enjoy our gallery exhibits at THE RED HOUSE. We offer painting, sculpture and photography, as well as ceramics, fiber art, jewelry, and prints & cards. Our artists staff the facility and are happy to answer questions and share stories.

We are walking distance from picturesque downtown Black Mountain, and just 15 minutes east of Asheville - off I-40, exit 64. We have ample parking directly in front of The Red House.

Over forty artists are represented at this show, along with a wide range of mediums. For this show our SVFAL artists were asked to represent the seasons. Our mountains have four distinct seasons – beauty and inspiration may be found in each, and even in the transitions between. Sights, sounds, smells, tastes, feelings – all change with the season, and offer artists endless opportunities to express themselves. What better way to start off 2018, than a walk through the splendors of the region! All artwork is for sale.

OPENING ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 2nd!  Show runs through April

Conveniently located next door to THE RED HOUSE, the MONTE VISTA HOTEL features rotating exhibits of SVFAL member work. THE ELBOW GALLERY features smaller artworks, while the grand public areas of this gorgeously preserved historic hotel provides a marvelous setting for larger scale work. Our first exhibit of 2018 features the work of SVFAL photographers and mixed media artists. For the viewer it provides the unique opportunity to enjoy over 90 photographs and mixed media pieces, executed in a broad array of styles, covering all manner of subjects. This exhibit will delight your eye and stimulate your brain. Enjoy a glass of wine at the Lobby Bar, and peruse art to your hearts content. All artwork is for sale.

Our dynamic league is privileged to have a steady stream of new members. Artwork by our new members is displayed at THE RED HOUSE on a rotating basis. New members provide a written statement about their journey as an artist, and the inspiration for their work, which accompanies their exhibited artwork. This is a great chance to learn about our new members and get a glimpse into their creative process.

THE RED HOUSE offers a wonderful chance to witness creative activity up close and personal. More than a dozen SVFAL artists have working studios in our headquarters, and they both create and display their work in these energy filled rooms. On the second Friday each month all the studio artists get together and have OPEN STUDIO NIGHT from 5:00 - 7:00. The public is invited to attend this relaxed chance to meet all the studio artists, ask questions and see their newest creations!

CHRISTMOUNT

This conference center and hotel has partnered with SVFAL to feature artworks in its public spaces and meeting areas. These areas are open to the public 7 days a week, and visitors are welcome. All artwork is for sale. CHRISTMOUNT is a quick 5 minute drive from downtown Black Mountain off Highway 9 South.

CHRISTMOUNT is also home to the GUASTAVINO NATIONAL HISTORIC HOME SITE. Information about the estate, and the peaceful walking tour that is on the grounds of CHRISTMOUNT, can be found on their website.

Our WINTER SHOW is now on display. It runs through March 19th.

Local eateries have partnered with SVFAL to showcase our wonderful home grown art. Enjoy epicurean delights and memorable creativity while you are touring the small town delights that Black Mountain, NC offers.

  • Start your day off right with tasty, locally sourced breakfast at LOUISE'S KITCHEN. Look for the big white farm house with the perfect wrap-a-round dining porch, at the south end of downtown.
