Jean Ryan has always felt in touch with nature. From helping her parents in the fields of their small farm when she was a child, to the long walks she takes today through the woods, Jean has found creative inspiration. Hiking instills in Jean the enjoyable sensation of being small in comparison to the expansiveness of nature. She loves a feeling of discovery, and currently works with cold wax and encaustic wax painting processes because she likes the unpredictability of them. By creating imagery that evolves as she goes along – building up layers, scraping through what came before, and revealing what’s underneath, Jean can expose the images she finds along the way. Jean seeks not to portray the physical realities of nature, but rather the feeling of it, and its effect on the human spirit.
