Martha Raines feels that attempting to capture the mood or feeling of a location is the ultimate creative challenge. For her, this is what painting is all about, and she finds ample inspiration for the challenge in the beauty of Western North Carolina. While Martha paints various subjects in her oil paintings and watercolors, the one she always returns to is autumn landscapes. Most of her imagery is described as “Realistic”, but Martha is quick to explore a new style, or medium, and she likes to venture into the Impressionistic realm on occasion. Martha is a self-taught artist whose images are a testimony to the beauty of the land she so lovingly portrays.
